The power of one is above all things
The power to believe in yourself
Often well beyond any latent ability
previously demonstrated.
The soul is the athlete.
The body is simply the means it uses.
At the rising of the sun and its going down
At the blowing of the wind and the chill of winter
At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of the spring
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer
At the rusting of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn
At the beginning of the year and when it ends
As long as we live, he too will live; for now he is a part of us
As we remember Christopher
When we are weary and in need of strength
When we are lost and sick at heart
When we have joy and crave to share
When we have decisions that are difficult to make
When we have achievements that are based on his
As long as we live, he too will live; for he is now part of us
As we remember Christopher.
Franklin & Marshall mourns death of Christopher CampbellAug. 16, 2007
LANCASTER, Pa. - Christopher Campbell `08, a senior midfielder on Franklin & Marshall's varsity soccer team, from Narberth, Pa., unexpectedly passed away while jogging at home on Wednesday.
Campbell, 21, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"I ask that you keep the Campbell family in your thoughts and prayers, now and in the difficult days ahead," said Franklin & Marshall President John Fry in a e-mail to the College community. "I am very grateful that we have such a strong and caring community at Franklin & Marshall that I know will come together to support Chris' family and friends throughout this very sad time.
Campbell, a two-time All-Centennial Conference selection, was instrumental in Franklin & Marshall's emergence as a nationally-ranked soccer program. An intense competitor, Campbell has been described by his head coach, Dan Wagner as the "smartest player he had ever coached."
"Chris was a tremendous young man and we were fortunate to have known him," said Patricia S.W. Epps, Franklin & Marshall Director of Athletics and Recreation. "Anyone who has ever seen a Franklin & Marshall soccer game saw the passion that Chris brought to the field. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."
Several seniors on the Franklin & Marshall soccer team were already in Lancaster late Wednesday in anticipation of Thursday's report date. In conference with Wagner, the team decided to report as planned.
"We felt it was necessary for us to be together at this moment," said Wagner. "Chris was a great soccer player and an extraordinary teammate. We are all hurting right now, but we will walk the difficult journey of the days and months ahead together."
Campbell was a 2004 graduate of Friends Central School in Wynnewood, Pa., where his father is the soccer coach. He is survived by his parents, Christopher and MariAnn, and a sister, Bridget.
A Quaker meeting will be held in Campbell's honor the evening of Sunday, August 19, at 6:00 pm, at Friends' Central School. More information is available at www.friendscentral.org
The family requests any memorial contributions be made to the Franklin & Marshall Soccer Africa Project. Checks should be made payable to the Franklin & Marshall College Soccer Africa Project.

Chris collapsed early this afternoon shortly after beginning a workout near his home in Philadelphia, and was rushed to a local hospital. Despite repeated attempts by the medical staff to revive him, Chris passed away.I spoke with Chris' mother earlier this evening, and expressed our community's deepest sympathy over the loss of her son. Mrs. Campbell shared with me Chris' great love for his friends at the College, and especially his teammates and coach. She also conveyed his excitement about returning to Franklin & Marshall after a semester in Spain and leading the soccer team during a much anticipated season.I have spoken to our athletic director Patty Epps and soccer coach Dan Wagner, who are staying close to the soccer team and comforting them over their tremendous loss. Counseling services are available to anyone who wants to share their grief and talk about Chris.I ask that you keep the Campbell family in your thoughts and prayers now and in the difficult days ahead. I will stay in close contact with Chris' parents, and when I learn about the plans for the funeral service I will share them with you. I am very grateful that we have such a strong and caring community at Franklin & Marshall, and I ask all of you to come together to support Chris' family and friends throughout this very sad time.Sincerely,John Fry
